FAQ

Before Booking

Is there a discount for group bookings?

We work hard to offer the best value pottery experience we can, with purpose built spaces and up to date wheels. We are not able to offer discounts as we don’t have any economies of scale.

Do you do private events and studio hire?

Yes we do. For more info please click here.

Can I cancel or reschedule my class?

All classes are final sale and cannot be refunded. We accept rescheduling if it is requested with at least 24 hours notice before the class. Please note we may not be able to reschedule to your preferred date if classes are already sold out.

Before Session

Will I get dirty?

If you come for a pottery class you may get some clay on your clothes but it washes off! We provide an apron during your session but we would advise against wearing your best clothing or light coloured clothing that could be stained by the clay.

If I have long nails can I still do pottery?

Yes! But it won’t be as easy. We have some tools to help you make items on the wheel but if you want to make pottery a long term hobby then shorter nails will be necessary.

Are sessions suitable for children?

Children as young as 4 or 5 can try pottery but must be supervised by a parent at all times. Hand-building is a great activity for the young and they can even try the wheel. We find children often excel at pottery because they come with fewer preconceived notions about being ‘good’ and just enjoy the process!

After Session

Will I be able to take anything home after class?

No items can be taken with you on the day of your class as they will still be in their raw clay form. They must dry and then be fired – a process that takes 2-3 weeks depending on the weather.

Can I collect or paint my items once they have been fired?

Yes! Please contact the office to collect any fired items. Please note that fired items are in their ‘bisque’ form and are not watertight or suitable for use with any food items. They are fine in this state as an object only.

If you want to ‘paint’ your item(s) please book your glazing session here. You will be able to decorate your pieces and then they will be fired again, a process that takes another 1-2 weeks.

Do you have a restaurant / bar on site?

Our Westlands branch is on the grounds of Bao Box and you can order drinks to the pottery (unless you are glazing in which case health and safety forbids it). You are welcome to visit Bao Box before or after your session. Our Karen Hardy is in the ground of our offices and showroom and we have no catering facilities. We provide a basic tea / coffee / water only.

Other

Can you make an item for me?

At Kuzi Pottery we do not undertake any custom or one off work for clients. You are welcome to come to a class or join a course and learn to make any items you wish yourself.

Why did my item break?

Pottery is a craft that takes many years to hone. Beginners often produce pottery that is not even and without suitable compaction. This can mean uneven drying which results in cracks. As you get better you’ll notice fewer flaws but even master potters expect a certain amount of their creations to crack or break during the process – it’s just part of the experience!
